10 Trick or Treating Safety Tips

  1. Plan costumes that are bright and reflective. Make sure that shoes fit well and that costumes are short enough to prevent tripping.
  2. Masks can limit or block eye sight so use face makeup as an alternative.
  3. If a sword, cane, or stick is a part of your child’s costume, make sure it is not sharp or long. A child may be easily hurt by these accessories if he stumbles or trips.
  4. Consider putting reflective tape on the costume or bag so drivers can easily see them when crossing the road. Take glow sticks or flashlights with you.
  5. Trick or Treat in groups. Under 12 should always have an adult with them.
  6. Older kids should stay in familiar areas if not with adults.
  7. Keeps to the sidewalks and only cross at corners.
  8. Stay on the steps. Never enter strangers homes.
  9. Wait until you get home to eat any candy so it can be inspected by you.
  10. Be Alert! but most importantly Have Fun!
